There are currently twice weekly flights from London Stansted (Ryanair) .........alternative connections are available to the airports of Biarritz, Bergerac, Bordeaux and Toulouse - 2 hours drive away.
Roads in France are generally excellent and not over-busy. From Calais to Hères allow for 10 hours driving; from St Malo allow 7 1/2 hours. The alternative is to take the 24 hour ferry (Brittany Ferries) from Portsmouth/Plymouth to Santander/Bilbao in Spain and have a 4 hour drive through the picturesque Basque country.
